Who am I - Answer this question and reduce your stress

Do you know who you are and what is important to you?
There may be days that you feel like you are everyone else's person defined by the roles that you fill in their life. Whether you are a mother, teacher, lawyer, garbage collector, or unemployed who are you behind the roles?
When you live your life based solely on these roles, it can feel empty and it can add tremendously to your stress.
Years ago I watched a cheesy movie “The Runaway Bride” starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. The premise of the story is that Julia Roberts would always leave her grooms at the altar every time she was ready to get hitched. This happened on 4 occasions. What you came to see with the heroine is that every time she became attracted to a man she would immediately start to change who she was to fit into her boyfriend’s picture of who she should be. Right down to what kind of eggs she liked. Even though this movie went to the extreme which is one of the great things I love about art, it gives us some food for thought.
Do you spend alot of energy morphing and changing to fit someone else’s vision of who you should be? Do you find that you are always wondering if you are doing it right or are good enough for them? Are you ever good enough? If the answer to the last question is NO then you must be exhausted.
- Who are you behind the roles?
- What defines you as a person?
- What do you want in your life?
Spend some time in reflection of these questions.
Take time to discover the beauty of who you are and how hard you work to be the best you can be in this life.
If hearing this last statement makes you cringe and you feel that there is not much to celebrate about being you, look again. Who are you behind your roles and what makes you tick?
Life is too short to live someone else's dream - when will you get time to live your own?
I look forward to hearing your comments.
Take care,
Gerrianne
