What Do You Want Your Life to Look Like?

If you were to sit back today and take stock of your whole life, how are you doing? Take some time and look at the following categories. Write a list of the things you would like to complete in each of these areas. This list is not meant to stress you out but to bring into your conscious awareness the things in your life that you know need some attention. By being more aware of these areas, you can then set up a plan of what you can do to take care of them day by day.

Looking at your whole life:  What do you want?

1)      Your physical health and wellness – How are you doing with your nutrition, exercise, sleep, supplements, etc.

2)      Your emotional health – Are you stressed and overwhelmed? What is your mindset – do you focus on what is working or what is not working? Are you aware of your emotions and how they are impacting your day to day life? Is there something you know you want to do to get a better handle on your emotions?

3)      Your mental capacity – Are you taking steps to challenge your mental capacity – reading, taking courses, going to school? Are you expanding your perspective and your knowledge of the world? Is this important to you?

4)      Your financial health – How do you feel you are doing with your finances? Are there areas you want to be more in control of? Are your debts paid off or do you have a plan to do so. Overall, how are your finances and what changes would you like to make to feel you have a better handle on your money?

5)      Your social network – How are you feeling about your relationships with friends, family, and colleagues? Are there areas that you would like to be more focused on?. Are there relationships that need to be cleaned up, apologies made? Are your relationships healthy and do they serve you?

6)      Your spiritual health – Are you being creative, are you inspired in what you do day after day.  If you are not inspired day to day, are there things in your life you can do that inspire you? Are there places in your life where you use your creative abilities? These can include singing, dancing, writing, playing a sport, cooking, planning etc. Do you feel excited about the direction you are going? Research indicates that when we use our creative abilities we are tapping into an important part of our true nature and this helps keep us healthy.

7)      Your home and work environment – How is your home? Are there things that need to be cleaned up, organized, fixed or changed? How is the laundry, do you have proper food in the house, are your bathrooms clean? When you look around your home, notice anything that pulls you down? Ask the same questions about your work environment. Are there files, papers and items that need to be filed, dealt with or discarded. Are there any things that make you feel negative or tired?

8)     Celebration - How often do you give yourself permission to celebrate your accomplishments?  People will often look at how much they have to do but fail to recognize how much they have already done.  It is important to celebrate our accomplishments - to notice when we have been successful.

This list is meant as an awareness building exercise. The things on this list were identified by you. This means that they are in your conscious and subconscious mind as things that you “need or want” to do. Until you find ways to “do, dump or delegate” these items they will continue to hold a place in your mind as “incompletions”   These incompletions have a way of sucking the life right out of you.  As you take time to slowly but surely complete the imcompletions on your list, you will feel more energized and able to do more.  Completing your incompletions creates more energy.  By making a plan to start dealing with these items that you have identified as important to you, you are getting closer to living your life more fully.

When I wrote my blog at the beginning of the New Year, I suggested you ask yourself– what do I want my life to look like? Many people go through their day to day routine, feeling a general sense of dissatisfaction about how things are going, but are not really clear about what they want to change. Taking the time and looking at your whole life will give you some insight as to what small things you can do today to make the changes you want so you can "live the life you want".

In my next blog, I will help you take a look at your list and find some small action steps to help you get closer to completing your incompletions. Until then, take care
